The 2024 FedEx Cup Playoffs, just like every year has three phases. The opening event has come to a successful conclusion on Sunday. Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama scored birdies in the two final rounds to grab a two-stroke victory, defeating Viktor Hovland and Xander Schauffele at the 2024 St. Jude Championship.

On the other hand, No. 1 on the FedEx Cup standings Scottie Scheffler, finished with a solo fourth at TPC Southwind. Now, the top 50 players are set to fight the penultimate battle and make a spot at the Tour Championship.

The Thursday round is to be opened by Max Homa and Si Woo Kim

The first round of the 2024 BMW Championship is scheduled to begin on Thursday at 9:25 am EDT. The field will be opened by Max Homa and Si Woo Kim from the front nine. The last pairing includes Max Greyserman, and Nick Dunlap teeing off at 1:40 pm EDT. Each of the teams will be getting ten minutes for teeing off, given there is no delay due to weather. Although everything is set for the BMW Championship to proceed smoothly, there are chances of history repeating itself. Last year, there was an hour’s delay for the opening round to begin. Will that be the case this year?

Thunderstorm spots at the Castle Pines

According to Accu Weather’s forecast, on August 22, “Clouds and breaks of the sun with a thunderstorm in spots in the afternoon”. The temperature is predicted to go as high as 28 degrees and as low as 13 degrees, with a Maximum UV Index of 5, which is pretty moderate. But what worries the players is the 43% chance of rain, and well, 26% chance of thunderstorms, with a density of 2.4 mm. This might render an interruption in the game.

To add to the woes, wind gusts will be blowing at a speed of 20 kmph, with winds coming from the NNW at 15 kmph. The cloud cover will be 86%, making it immensely difficult to see the course while hitting shots. Unless the weather gods decide to change their mood on Thursday, there is a high probability of delays or even suspension of the round.
