Does the massive prize money in golf make it more competitive or just a rich man's game?

The 2024 PGA Tour season is about to come to an end. Before the top 30 players make one final approach at the East Lake Golf Club, they are to make their way through the BMW Championship. The 50-player field tournament has successfully concluded its first three rounds, and the final quest for the trophy begins in a few hours.

The 2025 Ryder Cup team USA captain, Keegan Bradley, who entered the field in the second position, beat Adam Scott by one stroke after the Saturday round. Will the 38-year-old golfer shatter the Australian Pro’s hopes of winning a trophy after more than four years, taking home the rewards with him?

The BMW Championship has the same prize money as the St. Jude Championship, which is a whopping $20 million. If Keegan Bradley maintains his momentum from the penultimate round, he will be taking home a whopping $3.6 million. Additionally, he will also have 2000 FedEx Cup points added to his name.

The runner-up and the second runner-up will be bagging $2.16 million, and $1.36 million, with 1200 and 760 points, respectively. Here’s a detailed amount every player will take home after the BMW Championship concludes on Sunday:

Scottie Scheffler has been pretty much unbeatable this season, and as a result, he has been invincible in the FedEx Cup standings. Although the 28-year-old entered the St. Jude Championship as the leader, the trophy was claimed by Hideki Matsuyama. Scheffler settled for the fourth position, with a four-stroke difference. The World No. 1’s run at the BMW Championship has been faltering, making the matter worse. The PGA Tour pro sustained a back injury. Does that mean he will finally be defeated on the list?

If the 44-year-old finally lifts the trophy at Castle Pines, he will have a score of 4,424.795 points. Despite the players who are in contention to win the penultimate round in the Playoffs Scheffler will still maintain the lead. However, the only way he can be dethroned is if Xander Schauffele, who is currently tied for the fifth position with Wyndham Clark, ends up bagging a win in the Sunday round. Grabbing the 2000 points will give Schauffele a total of 7457.333 points, providing him the opportunity to enter the Tour Championship as the leader of the FedEx Cup Standings!
