The World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, and England’s Matt Fitzpatrick, share the lead going into the last round of the BMW Championship. Earlier, the position was held by the halfway leader Max Homa, who scored the course record of 62 on Friday.

Scheffler witnessed his FedEx Cup title hope slip away last year at the Tour Championship to the former World No.1. Rory McIlroy is again in the running. Now he appears to be at top speed with seven birdies under his belt. However, in a recent interview, he compared an aspect of his game with Tiger Woods, and it can be worth your while.

Scottie Scheffler might never feel the game was good enough

Golfers can never be satisfied. For them, the score can always be lower. Or they could have struck the ball better, or more putts could go in. And if nothing else, they can always reminisce about the victories that disappeared.

Scottie Scheffler spoke on the same note in his recent interview after round 3 at the $20 Million worth BMW Championship in Olympia Fields. And, he brings in a legendary example to support his argument. The reporter asked him how it is to think about the game after it has happened. When one looks back at the shots they took or the ones they could, is it too easy for the player to feel they could have done better?

The world no.1 responded, “I’m going to look back on my career, and I’m going to think I could have nabbed way more than tournaments than I’ll end up with. It doesn’t matter if I won eight times this year or if I won twice or none. There’s always more out there. You’re never fully satisfied with the results. Tiger Woods won I think 83 times, and if you asked him I’m sure he’s trying to think about getting No. 84. It’s never enough.

Referencing his game, Scottie also mentioned his fascination with being in contention when talking about his game during the season. Given he has been in one for almost every tournament this season. He also won the WM Phoenix Open and the Players Championship this season.

And now, he put a 6-under-par 64 on Saturday in Illinois, at the second of the three FedEx Cup playoff events. It looks like a win or no win this week. He will undoubtedly go to Atlanta next week for the Tour Championship. Perhaps, he will be able to satiate his hunger for the victory there from last year. What do you think?

Scheffler’s game plan for the final round

Tiger Woods has been absent from the PGA Tour scene on-field for a while now. He withdrew from the course at Georgia during the Masters after making the cut, at the beginning of this year. His ankle pain due to his plantar fasciitis rekindled during the third round. And the 15-time major champion had to retreat.

The golf world is still waiting to witness his glory. And possibly add a new feat under his belt since his last victory was in 2019. A similar case happened with the Japanese golfer Hideki Matsuyama. He had to withdraw from the BMW Championship due to a severe injury, breaking his 10-year-long streak of playing in the FedEx Cup.
