The second leg of the FedEx playoffs, the BMW Championship, is currently underway at the Olympia Fields. It is the penultimate event of the FedEx Cup playoffs, the last leg of the PGA Tour season. And players are playing for a whooping $20 Million purse. The top 30 players at the BMW Championship will enter next week’s Tour Championship in Atlanta. Following up a low round in golf with another solid performance is difficult. And the golf world was expecting just that from PGA tour pro Max Homa. On his second day, he carded ten birdies and scored a course-record 62. The 135 feet of putt enabled him to enter the weekend with a two-shot lead.

On Saturday, Homa held a two-shot advantage over Brian Harman. But things took a different turn. On par 4, his drive veered slightly to the right. And the approach shot ended on the right side of the green. Max, then, made a poor shot, missing the green, and chipped the ball again to a distance of 13 feet. Unfortunately, he putted three from there. He carded a double bogey after missing a putt from two feet and two inches. And, without penalty shots, Homa had a triple bogey 7.

“Just…golf is hard some days,” Homa voiced after his third-round performance at the BMW Championship. But Homa’s challenging day out at Olympia Fields did not deter him from making a young fan’s day. PGA tour’s recent Instagram reel is focused on Homa and his heartwarming interaction with a fan. The caption reads, @Max.Homa is a man of the people.” The reel also had a subtext saying, “Make a birdie, make a fan’s day.”

Homa is winning hearts

When the dust settled on Homa’s triple bogeys, he had come down to the second place, 9-under par. At the same time, he was 4-under just one day before. Amazing how unpredictable the game can be, right? Max still has plenty of time to redeem himself and take the title home, but he must bring his best game to the forefront on Sunday.
