Bob Menery asked Michael Block, “So, what’s the difference between his game? Would you just assume that Rory is a better golfer than you are?”
Block replied: “He’s a lot longer than I am that’s what it is.”
Bob then questioned: “Okay, so the length is the big thing?”
Block’s reply on this caught the attention of golf fans and social media users, who quickly took to various platforms to voice their opinions.
“Oh my god! What I would shoot from where Rory hits, it would be stupid. I think one of the best players in the world. If I had that stupid length, my iron game, wedge game around the greens am I putting is world-class,” he added.
Fans come out in support, skepticism, and criticism over Block’s remarks
Block’s remarks have ignited a wide range of fan reactions, with opinions split on his bold claims.
Love my guy block but pump the brakes

If I could golf like Rory, I, too, would be one of the best players in the world

And the block party is over. It was a fun week

Some fans were quick to support Block, seeing his comments as a testament to his self-awareness and appreciation for McIlroy’s exceptional abilities.
Well I guess all this media build up went to his head. So much for being humble. Now he will start saying he is better than Tiger and Jack combined.

I love the story but he’s taking it too far now. Dudes about to miss every cut by 15 and we won’t hear about him again until next year when they use it down our throats again and he misses the PGA cut by 15.

However, not all reactions were positive. Some fans expressed scepticism and urged caution. They were indicating that Block’s comments might be going too far.
If I putt it like Cam, drive it like Rory and rounded out my game with peak Tiger's iron play and mental focus I believe I too could be one of the greatest golfers in the world. Pretty simple formula honestly.

It’s crazy this guy is getting shredded for this. Social media craves villains so bad that they turned on this guy in 2 days
— Andrew T (@dwmpandrew) May 25, 2023
Say it ain’t so! This is why we can’t have nice things. I would have sworn this guy was a good dude.

Criticism also emerged, with some fans feeling that Block’s remarks reflected a lack of humility or that the media had hyped him up too quickly.
Hard to stay humble when the world's media has pumped you up bigger than Koepka who won the damn thing. Thought he would of lasted more than 4 days though 😏

That take does seem rather aggressive but the fact is he doesn’t hit it long like Rory so whose to say if he may be right or wrong. We’d never know. Again, I think the take is aggressive but I also admire the confidence!!!
