Can the Presidents Cup team survive without Billy Horschel's talent? Share your thoughts!

2024 was a year of progress for Billy Horschel. He went from 90th in the FedEx Cup rankings in 2022-23 to 23rd in 2024. This is because of his much-improved results throughout the season. He made more cuts, finished in better positions, and was more consistent throughout. But this was not enough for him to play in the Presidents Cup. This disappointment, however, has not meant that his season is over.

In a recent social media post reflecting on his season, he admitted to having struggled with a minor back injury after the BMW Championship in Castle Pines. This injury seemingly carried over to the Tour Championship the week after and he has still not fully recovered. “My body needs another week to recover so the injury doesn’t continue to linger. I’m disappointed to miss the Irish Open as I enjoyed and loved my time at the K Club last year,” Horschel said.

Additionally, he further added that he wished to play at Royal County Downs and return to a place that he remembers fondly as the site of the 2007 Walker Cup, where Team USA edged Team Great Britain and Ireland and Horschel won against Rory McIlroy several times. It is still remembered as a thrilling match where David almost beat Goliath.

And that’s not all, as the sportsman further went on to reveal his plans to return and play the BMW PGA Championship, Alfred Dunhill Links, and the FedEx Open de France. Horschel also won the BMW PGA Championship in 2021 so he will be returning to another tournament that he has fond memories of. This means he will be taking a week away from the competition and returning on September 19th to play at Wentworth Club. Horschel was hoping to make the team for the Presidents Cup but he did not automatically qualify and was not picked by Captain Jim Furyk also.

And in the end, he then thanked his fans and supporter for their continued support. He also chose to accompany the post with some nice pictures of him at his best in the season. Fans in turn responded with great compassion and support.

Fans also hoped to see him return and play soon and continue giving his best. One fan wrote, “Heal up, rest up, and get back after it! Big fan and always cheering for you. It was great to see you play at Castle Pines!“. The BMW Championship was a decent performance by Horschel where he finished T22. This event is not to be confused with the BMW PGA Championship which will be taking place at the Wentworth Club from September 19th to 22nd in Surrey, England.

Billy Horschel’s off-season may not be perfect but he will take the time to recover and regenerate and get back to competing on the other side of the Atlantic. He will surely be preparing for another season of strong performances and better results next year.
