Professional golf is renowned for its enormous earning potential, and in recent times, the figures are simply mind-blowing. The PGA Tour generated a jaw-dropping $421,800,000 in prize money last season during its 47-tournament schedule. This was a $30 million increase from the previous year.
But hold on to your hats because this year’s projected purse is set to skyrocket by an additional $141 million, potentially exceeding $563 million for the 2022-23 season!
However, they are yet to announce the prize money for the four major championships. Assuming they remain constant or increase, the earning potential for professional golfers is nothing short of incredible.
Moreover, the fans have suggested the players to whom they should send the fruit baskets.

What do the fans think about the fresh changes at the PGA Tour?

We can attribute the increase in earnings to the tour’s recently introduced high-profile events, which offer winnings ranging from $15 to $20 million. Moreover, these designated events will be no cut tournaments and will also award players FedEx cup points.

Additionally, the Players Championship is going to distribute $25 million in earnings this year, which is a significant increase of $5 million compared to 2022 and the highest purse for a regular season event. However, the stakes are even higher for the season’s grand finale in Atlanta. They have combined the FedEx Cup and Tour Championship, resulting in a whopping $75 million prize pool at East Lake.

The changes are extremely impressive. But, the fans feel that they owed the credit to LIV Golf.

“Them boys should be sending some fruits basket to Phil and DJ”
“No doubt LIV has made an impact. With that said, I’ll probably never watch it and it’ll fold in 3-4 years”
“Sooo $563mil spread over 45 tournaments when LIV has $405mil for only 14 events🤔…not sure I’d be focusing on this if I were the Tour…best to keep talking about legacy.”
“Can thank LIV for that extra 100 million 😂”
“But it’s about the LEGACY AND TRADITION”
“They better thank Greg Norman for forcing the PGA to dig into their pockets and this also proves Phil was right too…”
“Nothing like a little healthy competitive disruption from LIV to kick the PGA into gear and get them out of their entitled mode. All golfers win!”

We can attribute a significant portion of the revenue growth to the PGA Tour’s latest media agreement. The agreement involves partnerships with CBS, NBC, and ESPN.
Furthermore, as the PGA Tour is a non-profit, it has an obligation to distribute the funds back to its players while also covering the company’s expenses and maintaining a sufficient reserve of funds.
