Breaking news spread like a jungle fire, and Dustin Johnson has also become part of it. His split with Adidas has caused a stir in the golf world and his fans. Ahead of the inaugural LIV Golf 2023 in Mayakoba, four players of Aces GC attended the press conference. The reigning champions discussed their game and preparations to claim the title again. However, the highlight was Johnson explaining the split with Adidas and how it would affect his team this season.

Why did Dustin Johnson split with Adidas?

The reporter asked if he had parted ways with the $28.16B company for his team. The two-time major championship winner explained that it was a mutual split because “It just wasn’t working how it was just with my new — obviously playing for LIV and the way things kind of go. It was better for both of us to part ways.”

The LIV defector further explained his duties as captain of Aces GC and how his decision would affect the team. “For me being the captain of the team, obviously being able to go out and find a clothing sponsor is more beneficial than waiting another year,” said Johnson. However, he is hoping that things will work out and that he will find the required sponsor for his team because, from this season, everything will be about the team.

However, he hopes his clothes will get out of customs, and probably he’ll have something to wear by the end of this week. And if that doesn’t happen, he will wear plain clothes with no brands on them, which is blank. Probably, his team will follow in his footsteps.

Where golfers like Nelly Korda and Jessica Korda are signing deals with different companies, Johnson has decided to end one. The pro and Adidas mutually ended the contract after 15 years of togetherness in the business. Now, the LIV golfer will not have three stripes on his clothes. He confirmed the news to ESPN.

Adidas Golf president Jeff Lienhart said warm words to honor the former number-one golfer. The company has nothing against him as they saw the golfer “win multiple major championships, ascend to the No. 1 ranking, and cement himself as one of the best golfers in history.” But now it was the right time to part ways, and he wished him success.
