The PGA Tour and LIV Golf have had an ongoing controversy, ever since LIV Golf began. Many players from the PGA Tour have left to join the other side. Players from the PGA Tour have openly been criticizing both LIV Golf defectors who’ve signed with them. And conversely, the players of LIV Golf have their own opinions about the PGA Tour and its participants. One such incident occurred yesterday between former PGA Tour pro Charlie Beljan and Rory McIlroy

Charlie was not impressed with the statements the world number one made about his teammates. Charlie responded to Rory by openly calling him “the biggest cry baby.”

Why does McIlroy say his teammates betrayed him?

Among the players who left the PGA Tour to join LIV GOLF are Rory McIlroy’s former Ryder Cup teammates, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, and Sergio Garcia. Rory called them out for signing with LIV Golf. He called their actions “disruptive” and further stated that he felt betrayed. “I think it is the first time in my life that I have felt betrayal, in a way,” he said.

Rory ascended to Rank 1 in the world after winning the CJ Cup last week. In an interview with The Guardian, Rory went on to explain, “I would like to think the Ryder Cup means as much to them as it does to me. Maybe it does. But knowing what the consequences could be, I just could never make that decision. “

McIlroy’s Frustration with his former teammates stems from them joining LIV Golf. With them leaving the PGA Tour and joining LIV, their position to compete in the Ryder Cup is now uncertain. Although the players haven’t yet been told that they cannot compete in the Cup, there is a possibility of it.

Shots returned at Rory McIlroy.

After Rory’s interview where he publicly questioned the likes of Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia, former PGA Tour pro-Charlie Beljan did not take it lightly. Charlie, who is presently ranked 2815th in the OWGR, took to the Bunkered Facebook page, and there he expressed his offence and said that the champ was “the biggest cry baby”.

Rory’s words, unsurprisingly, offended Ian Poulter as well. He stated, “I don’t know where that comment has really come from, to be honest.” He went on to explain that he would, as always, give the Ryder Cup his all, saying, “Unless we have been told we can’t qualify I am still ready to play as much as I can and try and make that team.”

Ian, who gained the majority of his reputation at the previous Ryder Cups, believes that he is still just as committed to the Cup as he was before joining LIV Golf. “My commitment to the Ryder Cup goes before me. I don’t think that should ever come into question,” he said with grit. He is certain that, provided he is allowed to participate, he will play with his best foot forward.
