Sahith Theegala has made it to a solo third at East Lake after 54 holes. However, Saturday was not as effortless as the result sounds for him. After carding a birdie on the second hole at the newly renovated course. He drove his ball into a fairway bunker. What he did not realize was the approach might go wrong. He was touching the sand in an attempt to take the backswing.

Before hitting the bomb on the fourth hole, he called a PGA Tour rules official to get the incident under scrutiny. The 26-year-old was assessed a two-shot penalty after analyst Mark Dusbabek came on the NBC Broadcast to confirm the same. This resulted in a double bogey for the American player, and he finished with a 5-under 66.

However, all’s well that ends well. After a dramatic front nine, Theegala had a comparatively smoother run on the back nine. He started with an even par on the tenth hole and continued scoring back-to-back birdies from the eleventh to the closing hole. His series was interrupted only with one bogey on the thirteenth.

The golf community wants the 26 YO to win the Tour Championship so badly because of the support he has been getting from his family, that one of them requested Scottie Scheffler to let him win on the comment box. Scottie Scheffler has already won six tournaments just this season, and Theegala has been able to grab only one victory on the Tour so far.

Hoping he gets his second victory after coming too close to the win, one of them wrote, “Will Sahith win the tour championship? Scottie you won enough give this one to Sahith”. He is currently a whopping nine strokes away from the World No. 1. The chances of him bagging the win are slim, but his fans still have hope left for the final eighteen holes.
