The golfer, who turned pro in 1972, won the Masters for the first time in 1985 at the Augusta National Golf Club. He took home a sum of $126,000 at the time. He followed that incredible victory with yet another win at the 1993 Masters Tournament, getting a lead on other legends such as Chip Beck as the first runner-up, and John Daly as the second runner-up.

This time, apart from the traditional Green Jacket that the winners get in the post-tournament ceremony, he also won a massive $306,000. His pride and joy were beyond his wildest imagination.

After a long career of making headlines on the PGA Tour circuit, the 65-year-old Pro golfer entered the PGA Tour Champions dedicated to senior golfers. In the past 15 years alone, he went on to carve golfing history in his image. His new challenge was to beat the record set by the Hale Irwin of 45 Tour Champions wins. During the US Senior Open held at SentryWorld recently, Langer finally accomplished that goal too. Now he has a leading record of 46 wins on the Tour Champions, and to top it all, he bagged a massive sum of $720,000. It was no surprise that legend Gary Player called him “one of the greatest golfers”.

This new winning prize money exceeded his combined winnings at the 1985 and 1993 Masters, both of which held inordinate significance in the life of the German golfer. That’s quite the leap when making your own history. It may not have meant a lot to others when he won the Masters Tournament twice, but it was important to the pro athlete. And now, he has broken a record, which is by far his most notable and greatest accomplishment. The mammoth prize money is yet another achievement he can be proud of.
