If you ask how Bernhard Langer’s 2024 has been, most would probably say, “Pretty good!”—even with a little drama at the 2024 PNC Championship. Langer, along with his son Jason, took home the trophy after defeating Team Woods, marking their second straight win at the event. But, of course, it was not without any drama. 

It all started when Langer used a forward tee on the final hole of the sudden-death playoff. Both teams made their way to the green with similar-length eagle putts, but it was Langer who sunk the 18-footer and clinched the trophy. But then, of course, the internet did its thing. Some sharp-eyed folks started questioning whether Langer’s win was legit. A few fans thought he might’ve used an anchored putt—a technique banned by the USGA and R&A in 2013—because his hand looked like it was resting on his chest as he made the putt.

And it didn’t stop there. ESPN’s Paolo Uggetti chimed in too, saying Langer teed his ball up in a bunker to get a better shot, even though they were playing scramble rules. For a minute, it seemed like the golf world was buying into the drama, but after a little while, it was pretty obvious Langer wasn’t losing any sleep over it. He just brushed it off and got back to what matters—enjoying the rest of the year with his family.

It was Christmas. Golfers celebrated it with their loved ones, taking much-needed downtime. So did the Langer. The PGA Tour Champions’ Instagram shared a sweet pic of him celebrating Christmas with his family, captioned: “Christmas with the Langers ❤️.”

Congratulations on you two winning your tournament! That was great and couldn’t have happened to a better twosome! 🙏👍” This year was Langer’s sixth PNC Championship win. Four of them have been with Jason, and two were with his elder son, Stefan. 

With the Christmas vibes around, fans also chimed in with festive well-wishes. One wrote simply, “Congratulations! Merry Christmas.” That’s the thing with Langer—he’s not just winning golf tournaments, he’s living the family life, and fans love seeing that side of him. And speaking of celebrations, one fan didn’t hold back, declaring, “Tiger slayers! 😜🥳💯.” After all, taking down the iconic Tiger Woods and his son Charlie is no small feat—it’s a brag-worthy moment, and fans weren’t about to let it go unnoticed. This year, team Woods came with force, with the looks of them winning looking too strong. Charlie made an ace, they made tons of birdies, and they were good for two days. So, finishing on T2, and losing victory by little margin yet again might have hurt. 

Another fan added a cheeky nod to Langer’s style: “@bernhard.langer the PNC belts would match your outfits!” Team Langer got red belts this year, which definitely would go well with the merry red outfits.

But what stood out the most were comments reflecting Langer’s reputation as a family-first guy. A particularly touching one read, “The man, the machine, the Legend, and most importantly the Family Man.” To say Langer is a machine, and a legend is an understatement. He has 42 wins on the European Tour and 47 on the PGA Tour Champions. He came back stronger after his surgery this year.
