Greg Norman is the CEO of LIV Golf, and Sergio Garcia is part of the tour and has been very supportive. However, before March 2009, Norman and Garcia had a completely unconventional relationship. The Spanish golfer was dating Norman’s daughter. But things went south in the relationship and, with that, so did his game of golf.
At the beginning of 2009, the LIV defector was working on himself to become a major championship winner. Before that, he won the 2008 Players Championship by improving his putting game. However, in 2007, he experienced close calls at the British Open and the 2008 PGA Championship.
That year, Garcia landed number two in OWGR, right after Tiger Woods. He was an emerging star and walking towards success. However, a few months into 2009, his game deteriorated, and he was flunking it. He confessed that the probable reason for his downfall was his breakup with girlfriend, Morgan-Leigh Norman, in March 2009.

However, he eventually got hold of himself.
Did Sergio Garcia lose his focus in the game after dating Greg Norman’s daughter?
Norman’s daughter broke up with the former PGA golfer in 2009. Before that, Garcia was dating Swiss tennis star, Martina Hingis. The breakup sent him reeling. However, in May 2009, the Spanish golfer regained his original aura. He slowly started refocusing on his game. The breakdown after the breakup did cause enough damage to his career, and he did not want any more of it. Therefore, he began focusing on his game.
Explaining his condition, he said, “I definitely feel much better, happier on the course, and I’m definitely more looking forward to playing than maybe I was a month or two ago,” He talked to reporters at the London Club in Kent, and explained how he had been doing in his game. He said on the eve of the European Open in 2009, “I haven’t been hitting the ball well. I think it’s been a mix of probably being a little bit down and not really feeling like playing much.”

Those were a few rough months for the pro golfer. During his slump, he ripped Augusta National after the Masters in April 2009 and eventually had to issue a public apology. Garcia was pessimistic during The Players Championship when defending his title. However, the former European tour member acknowledged that golf was not enjoyable for him post-breakup despite his excellent play.

What happened after the breakup?
After his breakup with Norman’s daughter, Garcia’s performance declined rapidly. As a result, he could not succeed in any event and landed 77th in his next competition, and 38th in the Masters. He also missed the cut at the Quail Hollow Championship after finishing tied for 31st at Doral the week after the breakup. Eventually, he downplayed his performance at the Players Championship and landed at the 22nd position.
During the Players Championship, he explained his pain and said, “I still love golf, but it has been resisting me more than usual.” The Spanish golfer confessed that he wasn’t himself after the breakup. He was a person who was usually happy, but that happiness faded. His performance on the golf course displeased the golfer, and his well-wishers were worried about him. However, he knew it was just a stage.
