The season of the PGA Tour Champions is still going on and this is the second week of the Charles Schwab playoff. This weekend, they are hosting the TimberTech Championship. In 2023, the event returns after being held for 17 consecutive years. The tour is being played at the Broken Sound Club, The Old Course, Boca Raton, Florida from November 3-5.

Veteran Bernhard Langer returns as the defending champion, hoping to make a second win. But before he steps onto the field, he has made sure to bust an important myth about golf.

The field for the TimberTech Championship 2023 is filled with players like Steve Alker, Ernie Els, Padraig Harrington, David Toms, Jerry Kelly, Y.E. Yang, and others. These names have decades of experience under their belt and have learned many tricks of the trade that help them deliver their best.

Langer will be facing the seasoned golfers this week, and to get ahead of them, he will be relying on his skills rather than tactics of the mind. Disagreeing with the common golf phrase that golf is 90 percent mental, the two-time Masters champion has a different point of view to share. “If you say that you have no I.Q., I’m sorry. If you put two players together with the same level of technique and experience and capability then it becomes very much mental,” he said.

He continued, “Because what is going to differentiate those two guys who are playing at the very top of their game? But if I take you on tomorrow, I don’t know how good you are, but it doesn’t matter. You could be one of the best mental in the world, I could be the worst, and I’m still going to beat you out there just because of the different techniques we have, and the different experiences we have.”
