In his circuits, Austen Truslow is known as a one-handed maestro as he chips with his right hand only. It is not just some random technique that he uses on the field. He has implemented this method in important games and for qualifying for the US Open as well.

A series of unfortunate events in Austen Truslow’s career

In 2020, Austen started small with the local Korn Ferry Tour. Since then, the last two years were no less than a roller coaster ride for the Florida-born player. One after another he was faced with tremendous challenges which he survived bravely. In 2021 he ended on the 42nd rank on the Korn Ferry Tour, and couldn’t earn a PGA Tour card which was only given to the Top 25 players. Although he maintained to remain on the KFT. Soon after, on an early morning when he was half asleep, he slammed his hand in a bathroom door. After his hand recovered another misfortune greeted him at a friend’s charity scramble where he was hit in the shin bone by a 5-iron. He was bed rested for many days.
And if all this wasn’t enough, after recovering from his leg injury, Austen missed the cut in his next tournament. Afterward, Austen finally started seeing daylight at the Club Car Savannah Championship where he was reaching the top position on the leaderboard when luck ditched him once again and he got all feverish. He lost at the event and tested positive for COVID, all the while suffering from anxiety.
Truslow’s representation of unwavering strength and belief
One must commend the strong spirit of Austen who overcame all these difficulties and soon returned to the course at the MGM Championship three weeks afterward. But down on his luck, Truslow suffered yet another misery as he hit the hardened turf of the course with his club which sent what felt like shock waves through his hands.
Unfortunately, he had to withdraw from the event and rush for an MRI, which told him that he had torn the scapholunate ligament in his left hand. After his surgery, as he recovered, his rank slipped drastically and his anxiety peaked.

After a long and yearnful waiting his luck revived at the Sony Open in Hawaii in January where he shot 67. Another token of good fortune came last week when he qualified for the US Open at Boynton Beach. In an interview, Truslow said “It’s been very difficult. I didn’t know whether I’d be playing competitively again. It’s been a dream of mine to play the U.S. Open my whole life.”
Truslow has so far played in 7 events on the PGA Tour out of which he has finished in the top 10 in one of them. Austen’s sheer determination and love for golf remain undeterred through all these incidents. His struggle makes him a promising player who could make a break though at the US Open.
