Naming one’s pets after famous sports stars is not a rare occurrence. Not too long ago, the golf world even saw a feline counterpart having the same name as the GOAT Tiger Woods making headlines as it was put up for adoption for a meager amount.
The golfing community was again taken by surprise as they saw a similar situation with a LIV Golf pro. Many enthusiasts of the game were surprised as a lot of attention came this little guy’s way thanks to the effort of the golfer. Let’s take a look at what it’s all about.

The sport has seen many golfers express their love for four-legged friends. And this time, the LIV Golf player Bubba Watson came forward to do the same as he shared a story on his Instagram handle expressing his affection and thoughtfulness for a puppy. The more interesting thing to notice was that the little guy had the same name as the golfer.
The Instagram story that he shared was basically a post uploaded by the social media handle of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Baseball Team. They are a Minor League Baseball team of the Southern League. The post showed the picture of Bubba the puppy being held by the team mascot with a caption asking the internet to make the little dog a star.
The picture was captioned with a request to vote for the pup as the Calendar Cover Puppy for the Canine Companions magazine. ‘The goodest boy’ is a Black Lab who is competing with two other pups including a Golden Retriever and a Yellow Lab. The canine counterpart is currently put up for adoption at canineorg, a non-profit organization that provides expertly trained service dogs for free.

In a similar case of sorts, Tiger Woods saw his monicker being used to name a cat. The feline buddy was up for adoption for a mere $125 as opposed to Bubba the pup who can be adopted for free. This wasn’t the first time both golfers found themselves in a similar situation. Both were also dealing with injuries last year.

Watson’s performance in LIV Golf Greenbrier
Watson came back to LIV Golf in 2023 after recovering from knee surgery in the previous year. While Woods’ return is still not confirmed, the former world No. 2 has been leading his team. In the Saudi-backed league event held at Greenbrier last week, he finished T30 with a 7-under-par 203. His team, RangeGoats GC was only able to finish 6th with a total of 36 under.
Although the LIV defector has had a bumpy ride after his return, Watson made sure to spread some love for his namesake as he shared the story on his Instagram handle. We have seen many golfers throughout their ages talking about their pets and expressing love for them. And the golf community sure hopes that they continue to do so.
