The TGL match is nigh, and the excitement is palpable! The teams are ready, the stage is set, and the competition is expected to be fierce. And, might I add, the schedule is looking rather thrilling! The first three TGL matches are slated for the first three Tuesdays of January 2025, kicking off in prime time on ESPN and ESPN+ on January 7. That’s right, folks, get ready for three consecutive Tuesdays of golfing action, live from the SoFi Center. As the countdown begins, analysts are weighing in on the possible outcomes and one team in particular is being tipped to dominate the competition, which is rather interesting if I do say so myself.
Per the latest tweet by Justin Ray, a golf analyst, Wyndham Clark’s team, The Bay Golf Club, may overpower Rickie Fowler’s team, the New York Golf Club, in the first TGL match. Now, that’s a bold claim, indeed but, it seems Ray has some impressive statistics to back it up. Apparently, Wyndham Clark made a birdie or eagle on 34.9% of the par 4s under 400 yards he played last season, which is the highest rate on the PGA Tour if you can believe it! And, considering the opening hole is a par 4 listed at 377 yards, it seems The Bay may have a bit of an edge. “Wyndham Clark (The Bay) made birdie or eagle on 34.9% of the par 4s under 400 yards he played last season – the highest rate on the PGA Tour”, read the tweet.
Now, the TGL match promises to be a thrilling event, with three players from each team competing in a tech-infused environment. The match will take place at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, in front of 1,500 fans – a rather intimate setting, if you ask me. With The Bay’s strong lineup, including Shane Lowry and Ludvig Aberg, and Clark’s impressive par 4 performance, they are looking like a formidable team, indeed. The question on everyone’s mind, of course, is whether Rickie Fowler, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Xander Schauffele will be able to put up a strong challenge. Only time will tell, I suppose.

Amid the excitement of the TGL launch, with golfing superstars like Rickie Fowler, Rory McIlroy, and Tiger Woods set to tee off in the innovative new league, let’s not forget the drama that went down just a few weeks ago.

Rickie Fowler, one of the biggest names in golf, made a surprising admission about his team assignment in the TGL, revealing that he has no idea how he ended up representing the New York Golf Club. “If I am being completely honest, I am not sure,” Fowler confessed, leaving many a golf fan scratching their head in wonder. Now, one would think that a golfer of Fowler’s caliber would have some say in which team he joins, but alas, it seems that was not the case.
“I don’t know how the whole process necessarily went,” Fowler admitted, with a hint of bemusement. “I know there’s going to be some guys who are going to be pretty upset about their team assignments, but I’m just happy to be a part of it,” Fowler added with a chuckle. Well, whatever the reason, Fowler is now part of the New York Golf Club, alongside Xander Schauffele, Cameron Young, and Matt Fitzpatrick. And, as fate would have it, they’ll be facing off against The Bay Golf Club in the very first TGL match on January 7. So are you excited? Let us know in the comment section below!
