In 2015, John Daly participated in an interview with Kerry Packer and The Masters USPGS. The two-time major championship winner, Daly, discussed the Masters, Augusta, and playing golf alongside Seve, Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Player, and Palmer in the exclusive interview. There he revealed the qualities of both the pro golfers and explained how it was playing with them.
Let’s find out what one of the most highlighted names in the golf industry had to say about two former outstanding golfers.
How did John Daly differentiate between Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson?
During the interview, he was asked what it was like to play with ‘the Golden Bear,’ Nicklaus, and retired golfer, Watson. Daly was quite subtle with his answer. He said that both were excellent golfers who achieved great heights during their careers. And to reach that height, one needs to be serious about the sport. And unsurprisingly, both of the legendary former golfers had always been very serious about golf.
However, there is a difference. According to Daly, the G.O.A.T., Nicklaus, was much more serious than Watson. He used to take everything seriously and sometimes too seriously. However, Watson preferred some relaxing time, unlike Nicklaus. Daly said, “Jack was okay, is very serious. I mean, he just can’t.” Then he added further about Watson and said, “Tom is serious, but a little bit more relaxed.”

The PGA pro-Daly further explained that Nicklaus used to take start worrying about things. Talking about an incident where the G.O.A.T. was supposed to play with Arnold Palmer, Nicklaus got anxious. He was worried and kept saying, “I got to play with Arnold Palmer his term at Bay Hill one.”
