John Daly today enjoys the pleasure of being one of the most prominent names in golf. However, what shines isn’t always gold. Even though the California-born pro is a 2-time major champion, he has had his share of some major downfalls throughout his career. Downfalls, which have resulted in him suffering numerous losses.
Walking down memory lane, the majority of his sufferings date back to the 90s. Throughout the decade, the ‘Wild Thing’ made numerous headlines for his involvement in alcohol and gambling cases. However, taking the undoings as learnings, Daly not only made a self-assessment but also succeeded in presenting himself as a refined individual by the early 2000s.

John Daly comes out as a refined individual
A 2002 Arkansas Golf Hall of Fame inductee, Daly welcomed the 21st century with some decent performances. Winning a couple of tournaments each in 2001 and 2002, he indulged in a conversation with a media house in 2003. During the conversation, he recalled his falling years to open up about his changed self.
“These days, I work hard at my golf, I’m more of a family man than I’ve ever been and I hang out with my buddies at home,” Daly said.
As mentioned earlier, the former PGA and Open Championship winner suffered some major downfalls due to his alcohol addiction. Four failed marriages, a couple of visits to alcohol rehab, suicide attempts, and a couple of tour suspensions became the defining path when talking about Daly. However, having the urge to rectify himself, Daly made sure to come out with a new definition for himself.

Going ahead in the conversation, he further pointed out the changes adopted by him in his path of correction. “I don’t go out anymore; never go to bars and do stuff like that,” he said.

Unpleasant scenarios surrounding Daly have often led to questions about his personality. However, in addition to that, it has also overpowered the positive doings of the now 56-year-old. Looking at the other side of the coin, Daly has been one of the most generous players on the tour. Apart from giving out massive sums of donations, the former PGA Rookie of the Year has often come out of line to help individuals in various ways. Something, which he continues to date.
