Scottie Scheffler has one glitch in his otherwise neat reality on the greens. When it comes to short games, the World No. 1 has no answer. Rather, he has all the wrong answers. It is just baffling that someone with a ball-striking average close to peak Tiger Woods, fumbles in putting.

In the ongoing Genesis Invitational, the dichotomy was once again visible. The staggering contrast shocked golf fans, some of whom couldn’t help but wonder where he would be if only his putting game was a little bit better.

Scheffler’s putting woes continue

At the ongoing Genesis Invitational, Scottie Scheffler was the leader after the second round in SG: Tee to Green, SG: Around the Green, and eighth in SG: Off the Tee. The world No. 1 was gaining 2 shots per round around the green. However, when it came to replicating that magic near the hole, Scheffler collapsed.

He was losing two shots per round inside the greens, effectively nullifying his strokes gained around the green. Notably, Scheffler also ranks at 107th in SG: Putting in the Tour. Although Scheffler roped in a new coach and seemed to be improving his short game, once again at the Genesis Invitational, his putting woes were out in the open.

In fact, the 26-year-old threw the ball in frustration after three-putting in the par-5 hole 11. Ironically, Scheffler chose to avoid talking about the obvious weakness in his game last season. But fans believe that if only he could improve his putting game, he would be a tour de force.

Scottie Scheffler should be putting better for World No. 1

From shock to dismay, fans poured their hearts out after the wild stat dropped on X (formerly Twitter). Some felt the six-time PGA Tour winner should be working on his short game instead of avoiding the issue altogether. Others were brutal in assessing his fate if he ever falters on ball striking as well.

It is a long-held belief that if Scottie Scheffler could even just putt averagely, he would be hauling in more titles. Viktor Hovland had similar problems, and improving his short game proved to be a miracle for him last season.

Some of them believe Scheffler will figure out just what is wrong with this putting. That day, he will dominate the Tour alone.

This user can’t even believe that Scheffler’s putting has just gone from bad to worse. They thought last season was the worst we would see.

Another fan, too, echoed similar thoughts. They believe if he just gets average in putting, there is no competition at the top.

What if Scheffler was not as good a ball striker as he is now? One golf fan believes he will be back on the Korn Ferry Tour, vying for his PGA Tour card.
