Winning on the PGA Tour for the first time or the tenth, regardless of it, will always be precious and memorable. And the golfer would always want their significant other or the family to be waiting for his celebration in the gallery. But at the Cognizant Classic, Austin Eckroat was not so sure of having his wife, Sally, fly in at the PGA National, Palm Beach. Not unless he was in contention.
After his victory at the Cognizant Classic, as the day finished on Monday because of the storm, Sally Eckroat told the media, “After his Friday round, he texted me, ‘Do you have a flight booked yet?’” She actually booked the tickets then, and when Eckroat started his back nine on the PGA National Champions Course, she landed to watch him become the 54-hole leader. Did the two follow the same tradition at the World Wide Technology Championship as well?
Luckily, at the El Cardonal at Diamante designed by Tiger Woods, Eckroat had his wife watching all four of his rounds. The location might have probably played a big role in why the couple didn’t risk the late fly-in plan. Sally had to travel from Oklahoma to Florida for his maiden victory, but for the WWT Championship, it would’ve been a long flight from home to Cabo. And with the unconfirmed tickets, it would’ve been a huge risk that Sally might have missed the entire game.

But thankfully, the duo didn’t follow through with the same plan, as Sally was there and watched her husband’s victory lap without any disturbance. Now the only thing to do is use the $1.296 million winner’s paycheck from the WWT Championship, and Sally Eckroat already has a plan in mind.

But behold his prize purse has to be spent on one particular thing he promised, Sally Eckroat.

He was asked where his winner’s check would be spent, to which he said, “I’ll let Sally take care of that one.” He further explained that before his win, they just got a new house, and “We don’t have a pergola in the backyard, and I said if I top-10, we can get a pergola. So I guess we’re going to get a pergola in our backyard,” said the 25-year-old. So, that’s the goal for Eckroat and Sally for the next weekend, probably.
Additionally, the Edmond native was grateful for his wife that she travels with him all the time and sometimes impromptu, as she did at the Cognizant Classic. Through this lonely lifestyle, Eckroat, thanking her, said, “She’s been here for both my wins now, and she’s been with me for several missed cuts as well, so she’s there through the thick and thin.”
