The fifth edition of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur is just a few days away, scheduled to take place from the 3rd of April to the 6th of April. The 54-hole tournament’s first two rounds are on Champions Retreat’s Island and Bluff Nines. After that, the top 30 players and ties make it to the cut and advance to Augusta National’s final round.

Every player gets a chance to play in the practice round, based on which the final players are chucked out. This makes it more unique from the other Women’s Amateur tournaments. The first leg of the women’s tournament has created much anticipation and excitement among the golf community this year because of its more diverse list of players. Here are the top 5 contenders of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.

In the past 4 years, American players have dominated the event. This is because 3 out of 4 past champions were from the U.S. But this year is different. The competition is more balanced, with a mix of 36 American players and 36 international players. This means other players have a better chance too. With that in mind, let’s rank the players in the 2024 field.

Ingrid Linblad: Ingrid Linblad is currently the world’s No. 1 amateur. The golfer from LSU recently won the 2024 Clemson Women’s Invitational at the Reserve Club at Lake Keowee. However, right now, her main goal is to climb up the ladder at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, where she has had a stellar journey since 2021, but never really managed to get the trophy. In her rookie year at the ANWA, she tied for the third position with Pauline Roussin-Bouchard, Rachel Heck, Emma Spitz, Karen Fredgaard, and Rose Zhang.

In 2022, she tied for the second position, with Latanna Stone scoring 2 eagles in the final round at the 8th hole and the 15th hole respectively. However, last year was a setback for her, as she missed the 36-hole cut. This prevented her from heading towards the Augusta National Golf Club, leaving her with unfinished business! She surely is going to be one of the most sought-after players this year.

Megan Schofill: Megan Schofill is the 2023 US Women’s Amateur Champion who has also appeared three times at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. However, she missed the cut both in 2021 and 2022. Last year, she finally made it to the finals, heading towards the Augusta National Golf Club, securing a tie for the 14th position with Maria Jose Marin, Crystal Wang, Gianna Clemente, Amanda Sambach, and Monet Chun. This year, her only goal is to win the trophy and take it home with her.

Anna Davis: Anna Davis became the youngest female golfer to win the Augusta National Women’s Amateur in her rookie year at the age of 16 in 2022. She managed to defeat Ingrid Lindblad and Latanna Stone, who tied for the second position, scoring a 69 to end one under par in the final round. However, last year did not go as well as planned for the world’s third amateur female golfer.

She missed the cut and was also a part of a huge controversy. She was accused of breaking two very important rules. She cleaned and placed her ball in the second cut, on the first hole. For this, she was also given a four-stroke penalty and received sheer criticism from the golf community. Nonetheless, this year, she remains the only defending champion on the field, marking it as a significant year to take home the trophy.
