With cherished traditions such as the Champions Dinner, Green Jackets, Caddie Uniform, the annual Par 3 Contest, and more, Augusta National Golf Club holds numerous memories and heartwarming moments dear to patrons. Following these, a new tradition was recently introduced at ANGC. However, what distinguishes this tradition is that it is specifically for the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
Commencing with the fifth edition of the tournament, this tradition took place at the Par-3 course, where the Masters Par-3 contest also takes place. Much like the aforementioned contest, this tradition also boasts simple yet enjoyable rules, commencing on the stunning greens of Augusta National.
With two wedges available, one for right-handed players and one for left-handed players, the contest is referred to as “closest to the hole.” As it is a team competition, the participants will be divided into two teams: Team United States and Team International. As the contest would begin, and participants have to aim to hit the shot as close to the hole as possible, as the name suggests.

The contest progressed through several rounds, but at the end of the final round, the team that hits the most shots closest to the hole is declared to be the winner. The introduction of the newly added contest, in the form of a tradition, may bring smiles to participants’ faces as they enjoy themselves, adding an extra touch of brightness to the intense championship atmosphere. For this year’s edition, April 5 (Friday’s practice round), marked the historic day when the amateurs got the chance to navigate the Par-3 course.
However, this isn’t the sole aspect of significance in the tournament; there are several other noteworthy elements that the players get to witness at the tournament.
What else do the greens of Augusta National Women’s Amateur have?
Aside from the newly introduced contest, the tournament itself is pretty competitive. But the amateurs are well rewarded for all the hard work they have endured during the competition days. The winner of the event takes home the invitation to compete in the next five ANWAs, given that she is still an amateur.
