Nelly Korda has had a lot to be thankful for lately. Not only has her gameplay been remarkably consistent, but earlier this week she reclaimed her No. 1 spot in the women’s golf ranking. Yet, despite things going her way, the LPGA star is still looking for her first title this season and will certainly be hoping to find it as she heads to LA. But while she looks forward to the event this week, Korda is also looking back—mainly on what she’s left behind at home. Her favorite coffee buddy!
Korda’s heart aches for her friend
Just hours ago, the recently ascended world no. 1 left home along with her sister, Jessica Korda, heading to the site of the next LPGA event in LA. En route, Korda couldn’t help but think of a loved one she was leaving behind: her cat, Rafi. Named after the tennis great, and her personal hero, Rafael Nadal, Rafi is the Korda family pet and Nelly’s coffee buddy.

Overwhelmed with sadness about leaving him behind, the LPGA star took to Instagram and posted a video on her story of her and Rafi sitting on the couch. Korda was sipping coffee while Rafi was playing in her lap and then trying to sip her coffee. “Missing my Rafi,” she wrote in the post. “We share a love for coffee too.”

The one-time major winner and her adorable cat are inseparable when at home. Korda often takes to social media to post videos of her and Rafi. Hopefully, the thoughts of her pet being left behind back home won’t cause the golf pro too much of a distraction as she heads to the field of this week’s Tour event.

Just a few hours ago, Korda boarded a bus with Jessica as they both headed to LA for the JM Eagle LA Championship. Being held at the Wilshire Country Club, the tournament is the eighth event on the LPGA schedule for 2023. Korda heads there looking for her first win this season and coming off a hot 2nd-place finish at last week’s major.
The world no. 1, despite reclaiming her top spot on the ranking board last week, failed to secure a win. But she will undoubtedly be looking to change that as she heads to the $3,000,000 event now. Certainly, she has only a win on her mind. Well, a win, and Rafi!
