Did the Ascension Charity Classic just prove that age is just a number in golf?

The fourth edition of the Ascension Charity Classic is nearing another successful conclusion. The tournament, hosted at the Norwood Hills Country Club, features a 78-player field and began on 6th September with the final round on Sunday. Stewart Cink is tied for the lead with Y.E. Yang at 8-under.

They are two strokes ahead of Bernhard Langer, Rod Pampling, and Kevin Sutherland, who finished the penultimate round tied for third. If Cink and Yang maintain their momentum, there might be a final playoff to declare the winner. That said, what will be the winner’s payout for the PGA Tour Champions event this weekend?

In 2023, the prize was $2 million, and Steve Flesch, who defeated Kevin Sutherland with a 3-stroke lead, took home $300,000, while Sutherland earned $176,000. This time the prize pool has been increased and there are other incentives up for grabs.

The official event for the senior golfers on the Tour is sponsored by Ascension, a non-profit corporation that is also the tournament’s title sponsor. The 54-hole stroke play event has a total purse of $2.1 million, out of which the winner will receive $315,000. This is comparatively less than most other tournaments, with only a slight increase in the total purse.

The money earned at the event counts toward the Charles Schwab Cup points list. Each dollar earned converts into regular season points needed to qualify for the Charles Schwab Cup playoffs in 2024. The top 72 players get into the first leg. At the season of the season, the top five players in the final standings are paid part of the $2.1 million bonus pool (all as annuities), based on the points standings.

If you have tickets to witness the final action of the official PGA Tour Champions tournament live, you have signed yourself up for the perfect end to the weekend.

On September 8, as shared by AccuWeather reports, the Norwood Hills Country Club will have “Sunshine and patchy clouds.” It might get a little cold, so make sure to bring your warmers, and you’ll be fine for the rest of the day. The temperature will only rise to 24 degrees Celsius and will drop down to 9 degrees.

The wind will be blowing from the ESE at a minimal speed of 7 km/h, making it pleasant weather. However, there might be occasional wind gusts at a speed of 17 km/h.
