Often, people restrict themselves from doing things because they are afraid of something going wrong. Their fear pulls them back from their pursuits. But some people find a surge of energy that pushes them toward their pursuits even if they feel restricted in some ways.

One particular Florida-born golfer recently turned 50 and had been debating whether to play in the PGA Tour Champions. He had once playfully remarked that when he turned 50, he would probably be busy fishing and not playing golf. However, his mother changed his mind, and he recently shared with the public how this happened.

Boo Weekley spoke at a press conference in the ongoing Ascension Charity Classic, at the Norwood Country Club, in Missouri. He spoke about how he never thought he’d make it this far. Soon after turning 50, in July this year, the people’s favorite has made a comeback into golf through the PGA Tour Champions.

Boo Weekley explained how his mother played a major role in convincing him to play golf again. She told him, “You can always go back to holding a shovel and digging ditches and you know, and you can run equipment so just have fun and enjoy it and see what happens.”

Weekley fondly recalled how his mom asked him what was the worst thing that could happen if he did this was “Nothing.” One journalist in the conference shouted out, “Momma’s right.” Weekley laughed and warmly agreed. “Yeah, Momma’s right, you got that right. Momma’s always right.”

For context, the three-time PGA Tour winner has played little golf in the past six years, apart from odd appearances in 2017 and 2019. Weekley suffered from a condition called ‘tendinitis’ and it dragged him away from the golf courses.
