The Ryder Cup is at arm’s length now. Fans can feel the excitement even more now as the Team US landed in Rome on Friday for training camp headed by Zach Johnson and the team could barely contain their excitement.

Although three members of the 12-man team were missing due to family issues, there was one more name that was missed widely. The legendary Tiger Woods remains back home to handle the important PGA director duties but in spirit, he is present with all the players and his previous experience will be a guiding light in Rome during the Cup.

Yesterday the nine members landed in Rome and went straight to have a practice session at the Marco Simone Golf course. Jordan Spieth, Xander Schauffele, and Patrick Cantlay were missing due to prior family commitments but the vice captains were there to help the rest of the players train.

This year’s vice-captains are Steve Stricker, Davis Love III, Jim Furyk, Fred Couples, and Stewart Cink but the team sincerely believes that there is another unofficial vice-captain back home, Tiger Woods. Speaking about his presence in spirit Johnson said on Friday: “Tiger is very much a part of Team USA and has been for years,” Johnson said. “He is, for lack of a better term, on call with us. He is very much in the know as to what we’re trying to do.”

Johnson further adds that the team will be using Woods’ immense wisdom in Rome. “We’re going to utilize his wisdom and he’s passionate about the Ryder Cup. He wishes he could be here, but it’s just not in the cards for him physically. And that’s fine. I mean, he is with us. He’s just not here physically.”

Woods, who last month accepted the role of a PGA Tour director, has been busy performing his various duties.
