The upcoming event of the Saudi-backed circuit, LIV Golf Orlando, is hitting the greens soon. It is the last opportunity for LIV defectors to perfect their swings before the Masters. The former Ryder Cup team captain, Ian Poulter, is completely focused on winning the Orlando event. His new mode of transport is a testament to his dedication. Poulter along with his teammates at Majesticks GC attended a press conference ahead of the event and revealed some unexpected updates.

Ian Poulter believes in saving time

The former PGA Tour pro loves collecting cars, and has a lot of them. Therefore, when a reporter asked him, “Ian, you’re a big car collector, I assume you’re commuting each day here so what’s your thought process in terms of which car you decide to drive?” To everyone’s surprise, Poulter did not take any of the cars; they were all at his home. It was unexpected but he had his reasons. Poulter said, “I know we live very close, but we decided to SpeedBird, who help us fly around, had an option to pop in on a helicopter this morning.” This year, it’s all about team building, and therefore, time is precious.

Talking about his approach towards the golf course, he said, “So we’re just kind of doing a site visit around Orlando to see if there’s any cool areas where we may be able to build a Stix stadium golf course.” “Took about six minutes door-to-door and made it very easy,” he added. This made the reporter curious. He asked if the pro golfer would be using a helicopter daily for commuting.

To which the team captain replied, “It’s looking like it, yes. Orlando traffic gets pretty busy at home. More time at home will be great.” Rather than wasting time in traffic, he prefers to choose a faster commute vehicle. In fact, Poulter put an Instagram story where he can be seen inside the helicopter. He was wearing headphones for communication with a seat belt. The pro wrote, “ok boys time to go to work.”

The problems of the LIV Golf League don’t seem to end

The rivalry between the PGA Tour and the LIV Golf League is as evident as can be. Some people become a part of it, and some people reserve their comments. However, Poulter spoke up firmly against the DP World Tour and their disparities. But that was not it. Another major setback hit LIV Golf hard. Top golfers, including Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, and Brooks Koepka, among others, joined the breakaway Tour in exchange for a purported nine-figure assured payout. Even though it has only been going for a year, the Saudi-funded Tour is already changing its business strategy. One such change might involve the team component being the sole competition in LIV Golf.

LIV Golf requires its players to participate in every one of its 14 events throughout the year, unlike the PGA Tour. The player must spend an outrageous sum to end their contract if they grow weary of the strict rule. According to Sports Illustrated, there is a penalty provision that states the golfer must pay two, three, or four times their signing bonus to break the agreement if they wish to quit the Saudi-funded Tour for any reason. For instance, Mickelson must pay between $400 to $800 million as a penalty to break his $200 million contract.
