Sergio Garcia is locking into the 2025 season with a ton of hope, especially when it comes to the upcoming Masters. And he seems to be a very promising character for the upcoming Augusta National event. How? For instance, the golfer has swung it pretty well this season. He made a win at the Hong Kong event, a strong performance he maintained in the ongoing Miami event. Looking at this, you have to praise him–and the person behind such awesome gameplay. And that man is Sergio Garcia’s father, Victor Garcia. More interesting is the fact that Sergio Garcia isn’t the only person hitting it strong on the greens because of Sr. Garcia.
The other budding golfer is Carla Bernat Escuder, the 2025 ANWA champion. Additionally, Escuder was full of praise for Victor Garcia post her win at the Augusta National. Sitting for the Trophy Presentation Interview in Georgia, she was faced with a very interesting question about her coach and more. “We know Sergio had his moment here at Augusta National. How much does that add to what you were able to do here this afternoon?”
Carla Bernat Escuder’s answer was both humbling and sympathetic. She replied, “I mean, it’s a good thing, definitely, that he was the last Spaniard to win here at Augusta. So yeah, I’m so thankful for him. He just helped me so much with my golf swing and even outside of the golf course, he’s always there for me. I wish he could be here, but he’s going to be here next week because one of my best friends playing in the Masters, too.”

Interestingly, Escuder’s history with Victor Garcia is old. The 21-year-old golfer started under Sr. Garcia in her junior years, aged 13. However, one of Victor Gracia’s strengths is his observation of elite players in various tournaments. From this, he developed a teaching philosophy that focuses on a golfer’s natural swing and movements. Additionally, even more interesting is this one other thing: Escuder comes from the same hometown, Castellón, as the 2017 Masters champion, Sergio Garcia!

Well, how about we look at what happened at Augusta National now? The young Spaniard shot an impressive 68 in the final round at Augusta National. By this, she won by one shot over Asterisk Talley with a final score of 12-under par. She is also the only ANWA golfer to score 60s in all her rounds (68-68-68). This, in turn, helped her join an exclusive list of Spanish winners at Augusta National. With her amazing win, she joined the ranks of Seve Ballesteros, Jose Maria Olazabal, Sergio Garcia, and Jon Rahm. Following the round, Escuder even spent some moments with Jose Maria Olazabal. But her fellow Spaniard, Sergio Garcia, may also give a promising result at Augusta National.
Sergio Garcia is looking for a fresh record at Augusta National
If Sergio Garcia’s current form is anything to go by, he will likely give very strong competition to the strong roster at the Masters, including his fellow LIV golfers. However, what’s even more interesting is that Garcia will be making his 100th major start at the Masters Tournament. Yes, if that does not speak loud to you, then Garcia’s funny response in Miami to a reminder will do that: “Yeah, not as many as Phil, but getting up there.” This came in response to the reminder that he would be joining the elusive list with fellow LIV golfer Phil Mickelson, who has already passed the 100 majors starts mark.

But this, in part, also comes with his consistency at Augusta National. For instance, in his 99 starts, he has made one win, 23 top-10 finishes, and 65 cuts. Sounds good? Well, Garcia feels the same and credits their consistency for it. “It just shows the quality and the consistency that we’ve had throughout our careers. Not a lot of people have been able to get over the 100-major mark, so it’s obviously an honor and something that I’m super proud of.”
Post Escuder’s strong performance, is Garcia going to be the next Spaniard to give others a headache? However, part of the reason he is so promising is that Garcia takes it for fun as well. Well, at least a little. “I think at the end of the day, it’s to go there and enjoy the week as much as possible,” Garcia said during an interview in Miami. He also added that Masters is more than about playing well and added, “But I just want to go there and really enjoy it because it’s the way it should be.” Sure, he has had plenty of frustrating moments at Augusta National, but he is promising regardless. If he continues with his form–well, it’s going to be entertaining to watch.
