Sportswriter Alan Shipnuck has caused quite a few whirlwinds in the golf world, especially in the past year. With his book on Phil Mickelson cooking up a storm, his name has buzzed around a lot of late. A few days back, his anonymous quotes about Rory McIlroy earned him some notoriety in the golf scene.

Now, his recent book release is making the headlines. Titled LIV and Let Die, the book already has enough intrigue built into its launch. The ironic title plays on the connection with the popular James Bond movie. Perhaps, the ambiguity and uncertainty involved in the topic justifies the title.

Alan Shipnuck, in his interview with Sports Illustrated, spoke quite enthusiastically of LIV Golf. Answering a question about his views on LIV as a golf fan and as a journalist, Shipnuck had positive things to say.

“LIV has been a gift from the content gods.” He further went on to claim that golf had become boring of late until LIV spiced it up. “A boring, sleepy, tired old sport was just injected with an unparalleled amount of juice, energy, bitchiness and controversy.”

Well, there has no been shortage of controversies after LIV entered the golf landscape. The drama that ensued from the move of LIV golfers from the PGA Tour was enticing to the fans, to put it mildly.

Shipnuck compared the experience to “riding a bucking bronco”. He claimed that irrespective of one’s stand regarding LIV Golf, one has to accept that the cash-rich league has been entertaining us with its antiques.

The book carries an interesting note that sort of works as promotional material in itself; it comes without an index. The note playfully demands the reader to read the book fully to know the specifics.

Another curious point about the interview was that Shipnuck sidestepped one part of the question about his views on LIV Golf.

Shipnuck’s stand regarding LIV Golf

While admitting that he hated LIV as a golf fan, Shipnuck revealed that he loved the entity as a journalist. He also offered a lot of juice in terms of content and drama. However, he refrained from commenting on his views as a golf fan.

Notably, he has had some friction with the PGA Tour’s prominent members such as Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas of late. One can’t help but wonder what more controversial bits are going to surface from the new book.

Considering that, it might appear that his current standing would lean more in favor of LIV than otherwise. Well, perhaps we should read the book to know more about his perspective on the entity,
