Recently a startling report emerged indicating that Patrick Cantlay thinks players should receive payment for their Ryder Cup involvement. The conspicuous absence of the 31-year-old golfer’s USA cap on Friday was, in fact, a silent protest.
Jamie Weir, a reporter and golf correspondent, shared a post on social media talking about tensions within the US team room. He mentioned that according to multiple sources, the discord is chiefly driven by Cantlay. The golfer is thought to have held the view that players should receive payment for their participation in the Ryder Cup. As a form of protest against the non-payment, he has chosen to refuse to “wear a team cap.”
As a vice-captain under Zach Johnson this week, 4X Ryder Cup veteran, Steve Stricker, who was a part of the record-breaking win in 2021 at Whistling Straits, has been actively seeking solutions to turn around America’s waning momentum in the 44th Ryder Cup.
Steve responded to the social media post of Jamie by stating, “Never has there been a team so together!” referring to the unity within Team USA and rebuffing all the recent rumors surrounding the team.

Awaiting for the results of the most awaited patriotic showdown
Earlier, the participants in the Ryder Cup didn’t receive payment. Yet, the PGA does allocate a total of $200,000 to the team, which is then divided and donated to different charities and organizations.
Following a decisive win by Victor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg over world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka, internal discord is likely the last issue Zach Johnson would want to address.
