LIV Golf’s 2023 train might have left the tracks, but the trails it has left behind have been hard to wash off. The season saw an intense match play between the players and the teams and some really hefty checks. But, irrespective of all the on-season playing chaos, what has made the most buzz is the off-season rule change and the new ‘transfer window.’

Amid these transformations, Sergio Garcia is facing an unprecedented setback. The transfer window in addition to the regulations, has changed things for the player’s team. Here are the top 5 players you might see taking the greens with Garcia in 2024.

The transfer window introduced a slew of changes to LIV Golf’s ground playing rules, and now the players are compartmentalized based on their ranks and statuses on LIV. While players in the ‘Lock Zone’ were given the chance to renew their contracts with their teams, Carlos Ortiz from the Fireballs GC has decided to explore free agency after turning down the team contract.

While these changes take place, a spot in the Fireball GC remains vacant, and so, five players from the Open Zone—the free agents—are eligible to sign with Garcia and his team.

1. Matt Jones: The Aussie golfer Jones has been a part of the League since its inception. The player breezed in the all-Australian Ripper GC with Cameron Smith, Marc Leishman, and Jediah Morgan. In the fairway whispered tales, the GC landed itself on the 7th spot in the team points list.

2. Graeme McDowell: The former Cleeks GC member is free to choose any of the LIV teams after his 42nd finish on the ranking list. The 44-year-old golfer brings an etching, and glamourous PGA Tour Ryder Cup win and major title to the LIV greens. So his addition can be a gleaming plus.

3. Pat Perez: The 28th player in the Open Zone, Perez played with the winning 4Aces GC in the 2023 leg of the League. The golfer’s individual performance led him to become a free-agent player, and so, he could join the Fireball GC with a win scribbled on his back.

4. David Puig: The young LIV star was a part of the roaring Torque GC fray and took the greens on a ride under the captainship of Joaquin Niemann. After the 2023 season, the player sat in the 31st place on the LIV’s deemed leaderboard. So he can make a choice to join Garcia and his team for the 2024 leg.

5. Bernd Wiesberger: The 38-year-old golfer was a part of the Cleeks GC last season. If Wiesberger decides to join the Fireball GC, he will bring with him, a flourished pro golfing career and a Ryder Cup victory.
