Representing your nation in the clash of the two titans is more than enough of a driving force to push the four-time major winner to improve his game every step of the way.

McIlroy has had a total of six appearances in the prestigious tournament over the years out of which he has managed to clinch victory four times with his teammates. The Northern Irish golfer will look to increase his record as the 34-year-old was seen aiming to ameliorate his gameplay before the upcoming event.

In a press conference after the second round of the BMW PGA Championship, the 24X PGA Tour winner went ahead to talk about how he started to work on his game not too long ago after the loss at the Horizon Irish Open, scoring a 279(-9). Continuing on his explanation, the golfer said, “Just my clubface and my path are a little too far apart” while describing how his putts are too far to the left while the clubface is getting too far to the right, hinting at his performance at the 12th hole in K-Club.

Nevertheless, the 2014 PGA Championship winner was quick to point out that he is not too far away from the goal. In the meantime, he indicated that his “go-shot at the minute is a fade” while pointing out how unusual it is. Further elucidating his current form, ‘Rors’ mentioned how his first instinct is to play a draw, but if that doesn’t work out, he would resort to “aiming the ball either at the target or left of the target and just letting it come back out”.

The favorite failed to capitalize on his great start at the Irish Open as he found the water a total of four times while raking up a triple bogey to end his hopes of winning the crown. But, his determination to work on his game ahead of the esteemed event is nothing short of impressive, stemming from an immense emotional attachment to the upcoming tournament.

McIlroy shares his fondness for the Ryder Cup

The current No. 2 ranked golfer in the world according to OWGR had earlier opened up about how he shed a tear during Europe’s loss in the ‘Battle of Brookline’  and in 2021 at Whistling Straits. The golfer had been dropped from play during the event after which the team went ahead to lose to the USA in a 19-9 loss in the last edition. With the golfer shedding a tear on both occasions, he pointed out how “not much has changed” in terms of his attachment to the event.
