The 2023 season has come to an end and also the second year of the PIF-backed league, LIV Golf. The league which debuted in 2022, has since then gone through many changes and become bigger than what was expected out of it. From becoming a rival of the PGA Tour to now aiming for a potential merger, from not acquiring any player to getting hold of the best, LIV Golf has come a long way. Here are 5 noteworthy recap events of LIV Golf showcased by its very own CEO Greg Norman.

Greg Norman is the operational head and the guy running LIV Golf. From its inception, Norman has been an integral part of the breakaway league and has seen it row over the years. Mr. CEO decided to share the best moments in 2023 via his X and here they are!

1. The PIF-PGA Tour merger: The PIF and the PGA Tour announced a merger on the 6th of June, which was supposed to be finalized by the 31st of December. However, it will reportedly be delayed and extended into 2024. Greg Norman remains hopeful that the framework will be finalized. In his tweet, the CEO had his fingers crossed as he talked about the merger’s advantages. He said, ” 🤞Framework agreement happens – would be good for golf, players, and fans.” 

2. Jon Rahm joining LIV: As per the 20x PGA Tour winner, the 2023 season was better than before because it had signed a star player from the PGA Tour. The league officially inducted Jon Rahm after months of rumors in December. The joining of the 2023 reigning Masters champion was seen as its finest move. Norman quoted, “The best and most important player in the world today -Jon Rahm – joins our LIV family,” in his recap list.

3. Brooks Koepka winning major: After winning the PGA Championship back to back in two seasons (2018 and 2019), Brooks Koepka clinched another major of his life in the 2023 season. Norman took account of his 2023 PGA Championship; the fifth major for the Floridian golfer as he won 5 majors in the last six years. Additionally, Koepka came close to winning his sixth major as well when he finished T2 for the 2023 Masters. The two great runs by Koepka were some of the biggest things that happened to LIV for the 2023 edition.

4. Three champions on the DP World Tour: After hardly winning on by other leagues and missing the crucial OWGR points for world ranking, the 2023 season witnessed three remarkable performances by Dean Burmester, Louis Oosthuizen and Joaquin Niemann on the DP World Tour.

Burmester prevailed twice on the DPWT as he won the Joburg Open and the Investec South African Open Championship. On the other hand, Oosthuizen got back-to-back victories by winning the Alfred Dunhill Championship and the Mauritius Open while Niemann won the Australian Open. The CEO was proud of the various victories and noted them in his recap tweet.

5. Bryson DeChambeau’s lowest round: Although it has only been two years since LIV Golf’s existence, there have been a few records up already. At the LIV Golf Greenbrier in August, Bryson DeChambeau shot the historical lowest round of LIV’s history.

DeChambeau shot 12 under 58 and became the seventh man in history to shoot the lowest while the fourth golfer to do so in the main league. The lowest round of 2020 U.S. Open champion was incredibly second on Norman’s 2023 recap and complimented as he deemed it to be, “the best round I have ever witnessed an extraordinary accomplishment“.

With all the hustle and bustle of 2023, the second edition of LIV Golf witnessed many victories and showcased unexpected yet impressive performances. In the 2024 season, LIV Golf may welcome new players, as touted by Norman, and is likely to garner more glory!
