Brooks Koepka‘s happiness couldn’t be contained after Zach Johnson announced him as his wildcard pick for the Ryder Cup on Tuesday. His long wait finally came to an end in the desired way. His selection becomes even more special as this year he is the only LIV Golfer to be part of the Ryder Cup squad.

Yesterday after the announcement, Koepka was quickly interviewed on Golf Channel in which he opened up about what his feelings are after getting selected to represent his country in the hallowed event. To say that this has been a fantastic year for Koepka would be an understatement. Firstly, he got the opportunity of not just playing in the major tournaments despite being a defector but also winning one at the PGA Championship. And his finish in other majors was also impressive.

And then last month, he got blessed with a baby boy. Since then, he has been patiently waiting for his selection as the Captain’s pick, if not by qualification. The dream got fulfilled at last on Tuesday after a lot of uncertainty hung over his selection in the preceding days.

In the video interview that Koepka gave from his home, there is a white mini sculpture in the background which excited everyone’s curiosity. Famous golf analyst Claire Roger described on Twitter that the sculpture is “…The Nike of Samothrace, representing the goddess of Victory about to alight on a ship whose sailors have just won a battle.”

The figurine in the background had created quite a buzz. Claire goes on to explain now that Koepka is heading to Rome late next month in what is nothing less than a battle, the statuette in the background makes perfect sense.
