The temperature in Jeddah is hot, but what’s hotter is the tension among the LIV players. The field is scattered with players who are trying their best to win this big opportunity. And once again, Brooks Koepka is flying his flag on the LIV ground. Leading the tournament as an individual.

The 5-time major winner has already won one event this year at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club. And once again, he is making the best effort to capture another win. However, despite being in the lead, a big cloud of worry is hovering over his head on the account of his younger brother, who is on the verge of being relegated from the 2024 season.

When Brooks Koepka joined LIV Golf, aside from the money and ease of play, the biggest perk he got on the tour was the opportunity to play with his younger brother. The two haven’t seen a lot of each other in the years before, being busy with their golfing careers. But the last one and a half years were delightful for the brothers, who played side by side.

However, that period is under extreme threat of coming to an end as Chase fears relegation from the 2024 season of LIV Golf. His time with the Saudi-backed tour has been as successful and productive as that of his older brother. Neither has he played in any tournament, nor has he made top finishes.

Hence, he is in the danger zone with three other players, and chances are high that he could end up walking out of Jeddah. Brooks, who is his captain, said last month, “I told him, I’ve been through that stretch where you’re not playing well.’ He’s working hard; I’ll give him that. That’s why I haven’t gotten on him. I’m proud of him. He’s gutted through this thing, and eventually, it’s going to turn right side up.”

But when things became dire, he said yesterday at Jeddah, “There’s nothing I can do. At the end of the day, it’s up to him.” Surprisingly, the elder Koepka sibling isn’t the only one who’s accepted how things are. Chase himself has accepted the reality of it all.

Chase Koepka accepts the new reality

Chase, who until last month was hoping to turn the tables, said, “It’s all in my hands; if I play well, I can get myself out of it. It’s not like this is the first time anyone’s been in this situation and played their way out of it. It can be done.”

But now that he is in the middle of a fix, he has a different point of view to share. Embracing reality, the LIV star said, “Sometimes, you’ve just got to embrace the suck. It’s my fault for putting myself in this position. All I can do is try to play well.”
