On Thursday, the honorary starters hit the ceremonial golf shot at the 2022 Masters. Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and the new honorary starter Tom Watson hit the opening shot to get the 86th Masters underway. Gary Player opens up on the dream of the Big three

The Big three included the dark knight, the golden bear, and the king in golf. Moreover, the name originated in the 1960s when these professionals started to conquer different feats in the golf world. They were responsible for spreading the game to all corners of the Earth. By 1962, the trio shared all four major championships, with Arnold Palmer winning the Masters and the Open Championship, Jack winning the US Open, and Player winning the PGA Championship.

On top of that, they did not only play in the official events but also traveled the world to play various exhibition matches to popularise the sport. As a result, they probably made the most contribution to golf any professional has.

Moreover, Gary recently spoke about the joint dream that the trio shared with each other. He revealed the dream in the media interaction after the honorary startest hit the opening tee shot on April 7th. Player said, “If you think back, it was 1961 that I won the tournament, and the only international player — I don’t like to use the word foreign because we’re all part of this planet, and now there’s 16 international players, and what has been our dream.”

He added, “All three of us, and Arnold’s dream, was to make this game a truly international game, which it is today, which is really wonderful.”It is incredible to see how much the big three cared for golf. And also Gary’s words show how much golf meant to them.

When did Gary win his first Masters title?

The dark knight won his maiden Masters title in 1961. The three-time winner at Augusta National won his first green jacket with an overall score of eight-under-par. As a result, he won the 1961 Masters with a one-shot-lead. Moreover, the South African professional carded a final round of two-over-par, 74 to clinch the 1961 Masters on Sunday. Moreover, the nine-time major championship winner won the major championship event two more times. Once in 1974, and then his last Masters title came in the year 1978.
