Nelly Korda and NHL player, Andreas Athanasiou, are still going strong five years into their relationship. Given her family background, it is not entirely surprising that Korda’s boyfriend is also a pro athlete. Her father, Petr Korda, and mother, Regina Rajchrtová, both were professional Tennis players. Her brother, Sebastian, has chosen the same vocation and is now playing at Roland Garros. Her sister, Jessica Korda, is also an LPGA Pro, currently on maternity leave.

Nelly Korda and Andreas Athanasiou’s relationship timeline

Nelly Korda and Andreas Athanasiou started dating in 2019. Both have been spotted together several times. Most notably, at the 2021 Meijer LPGA Classic in Michigan three years ago. Korda’s boyfriend was at the Blythefield Country Club during her 2021 Meijer LPGA Classic triumph. “ Great couple (of) weeks!,” wrote the 29-year-old on his Instagram handle. Korda, too, has shared a few pictures of them together, one during the 2019 Christmas.

Notably, the two-time Major champion sported a Chicago Blackhawks jersey on the 17th hole at the 2022 Canadian Women’s Open, a gesture towards Athanasiou’s $3 million deal with the Blackhawks. Nelly Korda doesn’t share many details about her personal life on social media channels. Whereas, the NHL star’s Instagram handle is private. The 29-year-old has played for Detroit Red Wings between 2014 and 2020. For the next two seasons, he played for the Los Angeles Kings. 

Andreas Athanasiou hasn’t matched Korda’s fireworks 

Athanasiou’s current contract with the Chicago Black Hawks runs through 2025. However, the couple’s career this year has been the study of contrast. While Korda was on a red-hot trail on the LPGA Tour, becoming the first player since Lorena Ochoa, to net six titles before June, her boyfriend had to sit on the sidelines for a major part of the season. In his final year of the contract, Athanasiou was hoping to replicate the 20-goal season of last year. However, the Blackhawk left wing was sidelined due to an injury in November.

The Canadian International returned to the rink four months later, but this season has scored only nine points from two goals. Nelly Korda, meanwhile, is at Lancaster Country Club to become the only third reigning world no. 1 to snatch the Harton S. Semple Trophy. Athanasiou hasn’t been seen on the course this year, likely due to his NHL commitments. It remains to be seen if the Blackhawks star will visit Pennsylvania because her girlfriend is a hot favorite to win any tournament she enters.
