As every avid fan knows, golf balls are made in numerous colors. While many players wear flashy clothes on the course, they all stick to the plain white ball. Conversely, many amateur players use golf balls of different colors on the course during their games. But it is not often that players on major tours like the LPGA and the PGA are seen striking balls that are any color other than white.

So, this begs the question as to why pros don’t. Many fans believe it is because colored balls on the pitch are prohibited in the Tours. That is not the case at all.

As per the rules of the LPGA, the PGA Tour, and all the other big tours in the world, there is no such clause or regulation that states that the players have to play with a white ball. The only rule imposed is that players are only allowed to use balls on the “List of Conforming Golf Balls,” which is updated every month.

The pro players choose to use white balls on the course. And the reason for this is consistency. Watching the same color golf ball becomes second nature to the athletes, and hence they’re used to seeing and tracking the white ball. White balls are also the easiest to track when it comes to the varying colors of the background.

Players on the PGA Tour that used colored balls

Because colored golf balls are permitted on the course, some players likely used one on the tour at some point. Well, one of those players is none other than the golf great, Bubba Watson. The two-time major champion is one of the most well-known players to have used colored balls on the tour.

When he began using pink golf balls on the course, it attracted a lot of attention seeing as how every other ball was white. But Watson wanted to add to his pink driver and pink golf bag. The golf pro once even used a pink golf ball at the Masters. This picked up a lot of controversy because the Augusta event is the most traditional in golf.

Besides Watson, another player who uses a colored ball on the course is 8-time PGA Tour winner, KJ Choi. Choi uses a yellow ball on the course. But he stands alone with Watson, and not many seem keen on following in their footsteps.
