12 years off from the game of golf, but the cult hero, Anthony Kim, still has the golf world in a chokehold. Fans and golfers alike are anticipating the return of what was once called the next Tiger Woods. While the rumors remain afloat, the question also arises of what Kim’s chosen league would be.
When he last played in 2012, there was no rival league for the PGA Tour that could lure away golfers. Though LIV Golf exists now, rumors say Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson are involved in poaching Kim before he makes it to the PGA Tour.

Monday Q Info shared a practice session video of Anthony Kim on X. The video, captioned “The swing is looking pureeeeeeee,” broke the internet and started a wave of enthrallment in the golf world. The video did not have anything unusual relating to it, but on closer inspection, a distant Phil Mickelson could be heard by some.
The video was first re-shared by LIV Golf Forecasting, a dedicated fan page of LIV Golf. The page hinted that the background voice in the video resembles that of Lefty, and it was surely Mickelson at the Madison Golf Club while Kim practiced for his rumored comeback.
“I’ll be damned if that isn’t @PhilMickelson‘s voice I hear in the background. At the Madison Club nonetheless,” it said. Although the sound is relatively low and can be faintly heard, another fan suggested that it could be Mickelson. The video shared is old, but Lefty is known for scouting players! Interestingly, his contract calls for it as well. It would not be unusual if Mickelson was actually present at the course, and had influenced Kim.

If the voice truly was of Mickelson, then he could play an influential role in Anthony Kim’s decision, since it shows that the two share camaraderie and have engaged with each other on the greens. The probable friendship between the two might just sweep Kim off his feet, and he may just end up joining the Saudi-backed league.
However, Lefty is not alone in bringing Kim to the breakaway league. Another LIV golfer, the 2x major champion, had urged the LIV Golf CEO, Greg Norman, to call Kim and start the negotiation process for his comeback.

Johnson was sure of Kim’s potential value and what it would bring to the LIV.
