The fall of the LPGA Tour will be celebrated with events in Asia. The leg begins with the Buick LPGA Shanghai in China, which is set to kick off in a few hours. The fourth edition of the tournament in Shanghai will be hosted at the Qizhong Garden Golf Club. Last year, it was Angel Yin who grabbed her first victory on the Tour through the event by defeating Lilia Vu with a score of 14-under after the final round.
Earning the victory on her home ground was a huge deal. Well, it was special not just for Yin, but throughout China. Her posters were put up everywhere, announcing the victorious feat. And even after a year, the banners are still there, and the place is full of her banners all around. Turns out, Yin did not even notice them in the first place. The Pro-Am of the Buick LPGA Shanghai was hosted on Wednesday. At the post-round presser in Qizhong Garden Golf Club, the defending champion was asked how it felt to wander around Shanghai with her face everywhere on the streets.
To this, she began by saying, “I don’t notice because I kind of just look at my phone.” She went on to narrate the story of how she got to know about the posters. Yin stated that although some of her friends knew a thing or two about golf, her Chinese friends had absolutely no idea about anything related to the sport. When she won the trophy last year, they asked her how the event went, and she simply said, “Not bad, pretty good.”

However, this year, on seeing her posters everywhere, they were surprised and told Yin that her face was plastered all across the city. “It was the first time they’ve been on a golf course, I think because we were going to go to a town nearby to grab some food, so they came to the golf course to pick us up. So it was pretty funny to me,” she concluded.

The post-round presser began by asking Angel Yin how special it was coming back to the Qizhong Garden Golf Club, where she bagged her first victory. To this, she stated, “It’s very special.” Yin went on, adding that Shanghai has always been very close to her heart, and she enjoys coming to this place. She has been spending her last few New Year’s in China, and that has earned her some great friends, with whom she enjoys hanging out.
“I came here for like two, three New Years in a row and I’ve got some friends here, so it’s always nice and relaxing and just social to hang out and have fun,” added Yin.
