Angel Cabrera has been off the golf course for quite some time now. The 54-year-old golfer was convicted of various criminal charges and spent more than two years in Argentine and Brazilian prisons. He was released last year in August, making a statement about wanting to be back on the PGA Tour and playing golf again, as that was his all-time dream while in prison.
The 54-year-old is out to do just that! According to the Associated Press golf writer Doug Ferguson’s tweet, Cabrera’s name can be seen on the field of the PGA Tour Champions’s next event, the Trophy Hassan II Morocco. It will be the first time he will play at the PGA Tour Champions after his last event appearance in 2020.

Before confirming his presence in Morocco, Cabrera last played in December 2023 at the PGA Tour Latinoamerica Development Tour. Cabrera posted a T10 finish at the Abierto del Litoral in Argentina. As he is trying to play more events, his return to the golfing world is taking shape.
Even the PGA Tour Champion’s President, Miller Brady, claimed that Cabrera “has the right to play.” However, it looks like it is not as easy for him to come and play in the United States after his conviction. The manager of Cabrera explained the issues faced by the pro to enter the country.

For Angel Cabrera to come back and play in the United States or elsewhere, he will need a valid visa to enter the country. As an ex-convict, acquiring a visa has become difficult for the Argentine golfer. His manager, Manuel Tagle, confirmed to Golf Week that they were trying to regain his visa as it had expired in January 2024.

One of the major goals of Cabrera had been to tee up at the majors again as the former Masters and U.S. Open winner. However, his dream of having a chance at the majors also depends on visa availability. His manager said, “While competing in the Masters again is a dream, securing a visa is Angel’s priority at the moment so he can resume his professional career.”

He claimed that they were talking to the US Embassy in Argentina and he may get the visa by early March. After playing at the PGA Tour Champions, Cabrera may play the Visa Argentine Open on the Korn Ferry Tour in Buenos Aires from February 29th to March 3rd. Only time will tell when Cabrera will come back to the US.
