Everything seems to go fine, and then suddenly—boom—a weather report comes in with exactly what you didn’t want. Rain. It’s infamous for ruining plans. And in the golf world, it’s nothing less than a curse. Something we have seen a little too much this year. And this time, it may be heading straight for the Sotogrande Golf Course, where the Andalucia Masters will take place, from October 17-20.

Notably, dealing with bad weather is something the tournament probably knows well. This isn’t the first time the Andalucía Masters has had to battle the elements. Last year, during the event, heavy clouds and darkness led to the play being suspended. But will history repeat itself?

With 18 DP World Tour winners marking their return for the $3.25 million event, excitement is amped up. One hundred twenty-six players are listed on the field for the 2024 Andalucia Masters, including three LIV golfers, Jon Rahm, David Puig, and Eugenio Chacarra. For all that to happen, it’s indeed necessary that the clouds remain clear, ensuring a steady game. But of course, that’s easier said than done, especially given the unpredictable weather.

So far, the weather forecast claims “considerable clouds with a couple of showers expected during the daytime.” However, Thursday, October 17—the first day of the tournament—is predicted to be sunny and clear, with only a 1% chance of rain. The temperature will be comfortably moderate, ranging between 21°C and 18°C. The only thing that might cause some trouble is the wind, with speeds of 10-20 mph, which could make it tricky for golfers to manage their swings.

With wind conditions getting slightly better, the weather may improve for the better by day 2. On Friday, October 18, the weather is expected to be sunny with a light breeze, but thankfully, no rain is predicted. The daytime, with 22°C, will be comfortable weather for golfers on the greens, and by the evening, the temperature may decline to 13°c. The wind range will also be manageable with a speed of 5-10 mph. It looks like a more favorable day for smooth swings and steady play.

As the game approaches its second last day, there can be a reason to worry. On the 19th, there’s a slight 5% chance of rain, which could potentially disrupt play. However, the wind speed and temperature are expected to remain the same as Friday’s. By the final day of the Andalucia Masters, the weather will settle to normal, with temperatures ranging between 23°C and 16°C, and a light breeze at 3-6 mph. However, there’s still a slight 1% chance of rain, so while conditions look favorable overall, a small weather disruption can’t be completely ruled out.

Though the conditions don’t seem too bad during the main tournament days, one has to wonder what could go wrong the day before. With a staggering 90% chance of precipitation, it’s more than likely that the course will be affected—meaning that like it or not, the golfers will have to be prepared for anything from wet roughs to faster greens at the 2024 Andalucia Masters. Nothing they haven’t dealt with before. But a pain nonetheless!
