The sport of golf has seen many historic moments being created and also many eras coming to an end. On Monday this week, yet again, the sport and its fans witnessed the sunset of another such period. Golf is played in groups of two, three, and four, with the combinations varying as per the draw and the standings and the end of the previous day. As the groups make the journey across 18 holes, each golfer has just one confidant by their side. Their equation with this individual is crucial, as he is the only one on the course who wants the golfer to succeed. This is the person who helps them take decisions as they attempt to hit exquisite tee shots, drives, and perfectly weighted putts to secure pars, birdies, eagles, and albatrosses.

Golfers share their successes and failures with their caddies, making it one of the, if not the most crucial, partnerships on the greens. Some famous partnerships have included Tiger Woods with Steve Williams and Phil Mickelson with Jim Mackay. These were long and successful partnerships that eventually ended. While golfer-caddie pairings ceasing to work together come on a regular basis for various reasons, some splits send the golf world into a frenzy. One such parting of ways made golf fans stop and react.

This time, the era that ended, involved a PGA Tour veteran and the man who caddied for him for over a decade. The pair had won over many fans during their 12 years together and became a team that thousands rooted for. But their most recent news now left many fans with shattered hearts! The 2012 U.S. Open Champion tweeted a heartfelt message for Tesori as he announced their time together had ended. Apart from a solitary major, the duo had shared three Presidents Cup and three Ryder Cup wins. One of the Ryder Cup wins was the ‘Miracle at Medinah’.

“After over twelve years of working together, Paul Tesori and I have made the hard decision to change directions…This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us,” wrote Webb Simpson.

The 37-year-old did not leave fans hanging and announced the individual Tesori would work with in the future and wished him luck in his future endeavors.

Tesori, who will be caddying for the 2022 Open Championship runner-up Cameron Young, retweeted this post along with many other responses to it. Apart from Tessori, many in the golf world reacted to this message in two different ways. While some were positive, other reactions questioned the timing of this split.

The Webb Simpson and Paul Tesori split divided golf Twitter

Golf fans on Twitter mentioned the heartwarming way in which Simpson had given his caddie a send-off. A few users opted to wish the duo luck for their respective futures on the greens.

Another section of the fans began chanting praises of the class and the grace with which the World no. 133 had handled the two parting ways. After all, not all golfers end splits with their caddies on such good terms!

The general sentiment around the announcement, as per the fans, was “class.”

One fan, who assumed this partnership would continue till the end, was quite disappointed.

But the 7-time PGA Tour winner’s announcement also bewildered many fans. They were astonished as to why the two had decided to part ways, especially since Simpson had just begun playing remarkably well. He had even finished 7th last week at the Valspar Championship, his first top-ten finish in 16 months. Users noticed this and touched upon his swing in their comments.

Many even saw their divide as a job opportunity. Taking to the comments, they threw in their own names to become Simpson’s next caddy. One even claimed he would quit his job to caddie for the PGA Tour star.
