Undoubtedly, Greg Norman is one of the greatest Australian golfers, if not the greatest. The 67-year-old has 2 Majors to his name. Now as the commissioner of Saudi-backed LIV Golf, the Aussie has been giving a tough time to PGA Tour.
Being dubbed ‘The Shark’, it is quite apparent how fond Norman is of the ocean. However, when it comes to crocodiles, a fellow Australian is much well-rehearsed with them.
Norman remembers Steve Irwin
Steve Irwin was a Wildlife Conservationist, who eventually went on to gain fame with Crocodile-themed TV programs. His high enthusiasm and energy could be visualized during his TV show Crocodile Hunter, which aired from 1992 to 2006.

Though Irwin passed away in 2006 after he got pierced by a Stingray’s barb during the shoot of an episode, his legacy lives forever, as fans globally remember the exuberant TV host on November 15 of each year. And like many, golf legend Greg Norman too joined in the tributes. “An incredible Australian. Happy #SteveIrwinDay”, tweeted the Norman.

Apart from sharing a common nationality, both legends also happen to be from Queensland. Though Irwin was born in Victoria, his family moved to the Sunshine State in 1970. However, details regarding Norman meeting Irwin publicly remain unknown. But, three years after his death, The Shark may have named a crocodile after him.

Three years after Steve Irwin’s death, a Crocodile study was conducted by the University of Queensland. The donations for the thorough research were provided by many including the golfing legend, Greg Norman.
During the study, one of the species of crocodiles was named after the golfer, in respect of his donations, and added to the Satellite Tracking Program. For most of his life, Norman was notable for being the Shark.

However, now, a crocodile is named after the LIV Golf Commissioner. The irony is amusing, but looking back at Norman’s career, he played his cards the right way and is currently one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world of sports.
