However, just one record is associated with major championships that the Golden Bear would not like to have achieved in his professional career.

Jack Nicklaus’ unwanted major records

Winning major championships is a dream of every golf professional. Moreover, Nicklaus is the professional who holds the record for the most major championship wins. But he also holds the record for most runner-up or second position finishes at the major championship events. Not to forget, the golfing legend also has a collection of 73 PGA Tour wins and is arguably the best professional of all time.

The 82-year-old professional holds the record for most second-place finishes in major championships. He finished as the runner-up or in the second position in 19 major championship events. Moreover, the golden bear finished a whopping seven times as the runner-up at the Open Championship. He has also finished in the third position in nine major championship events. If he had won all the 19 major championships, he would have added so many more events to his 18 major wins.

However, Jack is not the only big name present in the most runner-up finishes by professionals. Phil Mickelson, who is the oldest major winner, also has 11 runner-up finishes. The six-time major championship winner has been runner up at the US Open six times in his long career.

Other big names on the list include Arnold Palmer. The king, among the golfing legends, has 10 runner-up finishes in major events. He was a four-time runner up at the US Open, twice the runner up at the Masters, and three times at the PGA Championship

When did Jack win his last Masters title?

The golden bear won his sixth and last Masters tournament in 1986. Jack won his sixth and record-breaking green jacket with an overall score of nine-under-par. As a result, he won the major championship event with a one-shot lead on Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club. He carded a final round of seven-under-par, 65 to claim ye another Masters victory. Tom Kite and the Australian professional Greg Norman finished as the runner-ups to Nicklaus. They ended the event with an overall score of eight-under-par. As a result, they had to finish in second position finish.
