The 2018 Open Championship was an emotional tournament for Tiger Woods. A birdie putt on the last hole would have ensured him a T2 position on the leaderboard on Sunday at the major event. However, fate had different plans and didn’t let him finish with a good ranking at the major championship.
The golfer spotted his children on the way back from the 18th green at the Carnoustie Championship Course. And he couldn’t help but embrace them and share an emotional moment with them.

“I told them I tried,” he revealed the conversation he had with his children when he hugged them. “And I said, ‘hopefully you’re proud of your pops for trying as hard as I did.'”
Woods’ children aren’t aware of their father’s stats in major championships
From 1996 when he turned professional to 2018, Tiger Woods has won 14 major tournaments. Notably, the last major he won before the 2018 Open Championship was in 2008 at the U. S. Open Championship.
Notably, Sam Alexis Woods, the golfer and his wife at the time, Elin Nordegren’s firstborn, was born on June 18, 2007. Hence, she was just a one-year-old when he won the 2008 U. S. Open. On the other hand, Charlie Axel Woods, his youngest child, was born on February 8, 2009; he wasn’t even born when his father won the major before in 2008.
Therefore, both Sam Alexis and Charlie Axel Woods have not witnessed their father win a major. “So, for them to understand what I was doing early in my career,” Woods said. “The only thing they’ve seen is my struggles,” he added. “And the pain I was going through.”
