The female golfers are now heading towards the Amundi Evian Championship. The 132-player field, featuring top stars from the LPGA Tour and the Ladies European Tour, is set to showcase their skills at the Evian Resort Club in France. While there was initial concern that Charley Hull might miss the major, she will indeed be participating.
However, surprisingly, there are other top names, such as Ruoning Yin and Lexi Thompson, that will be absent from the $8 million purse tournament. What could be the reason behind their absence from the fourth major?

Ranked #4 in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, Ruoning Yin will be absent from the upcoming tournament. Recently, at the 2024 Dow Championship, Yin and her teammate, Atthaya Thitikul, secured a victory. After their win, the 21-year-old revealed in an interview that she would miss the fourth major due to a wrist injury, stating, “Honestly, I would say 60 percent. I mean, I can play, but the difference is just, play with the pain or play without the pain.”
Although she “really, really, really wanted to play Evian,” her body needs time before the 2024 Paris Olympics. Confirming her presence at the Olympics, Yin said, “My next tournament will be the Olympics.” We’ll see you in Paris.”
Lexi Thompson is another notable name who will miss the upcoming major championship. Surprisingly, this marks her fourth consecutive absence from the Amundi Evian Championship, as she hasn’t participated since 2020. Although she is qualified to play, being ranked 34th in the world, the 29-year-old has not provided any reason for her absence. Thompson finished T8 at the Dow Championship with Brooke Henderson as her teammate, but despite this performance, her absence from the next major remains uncertain.

Holding rank 15th in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, Xiyu Lin is another whose name is absent from the 132-player field on the LPGA Tour’s website. Lin finished at T30 with a total of 293 at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. Later, at the Dow Championship, she was teamed up with Ayaka Furue and was unable to make the cut. Could it be that the sudden decline in performance forced her to miss the event? The answer remains uncertain. Well, a few other names are absent too from the field.

After finishing third at JM Eagle in Los Angeles, the year was looking good for Ryu Hae-ran; it has been her best result for the 2024 season so far. Later in the third major, the 23-year-old finished at T9 with a total of 287 after four days of play. Despite her performance, her name is absent from the 132-player field of the Amundi Evian Championship.
Akie Iwai will be the last top name to miss out on the fourth major. Although Iwai played at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, finishing T32, she didn’t play at the Dow Championship, and her absence will continue to the Amundi Evian Championship as well.
