All the greatest athletes witness highs and lows in their careers. What makes them great is reaching the highest point even after being down for long. Tiger Woods, similarly, has proven himself to be the greatest because of his resolve and comebacks in the sport. He has created a reputation for himself to make sure no one ever writes him off. And now he’s rumored to make another comeback. But this time, the golf legend faces a challenge more difficult than he’s ever faced before. Let’s find out what it is.

Tiger Woods takes a huge bashing in one aspect of the sport

Of late, rumors have been afloat about Woods’ return to the sport. The PGA Tour, too, has back-to-back events every week, which would make the 15-time major winner’s return quite easy. But the problem Woods currently faces is his injury. Yet, fans speculate that we just might see him on the course at one of the Tour events in the near future.

Amid these rumors, Woods faces a serious crisis: His world ranking. Since his accident in February of 2021, the golf great’s appearances on the course have been erratic. This has not only led to sad fans, but also a lack of OWGR points, which has resulted in a fall in his ranking.

His ranking got onto a steady downward slope in 2021. In May, Woods fell out of the top 100 for the first time in three years. And since then, it’s gotten worse. The PGA Tour star ended 2022 with a rank of 1271. He had never been so low on the leash in the history of his career, and yet it gets worse. As of this week, Woods ranks 1283. And it seems to continue to fall since the golf pro has not featured in a PGA Tour official event in a while.

At the moment, the 82-time PGA Tour champion has not yet confirmed any event in which he will be making an appearance. But in the past, he has shed light on his goals in the sport. “The goal is to play just the Major Championships and maybe one or two more,” he said in an interview with Eurosport in 2022. “That’s it.” “I mean, physically, that’s all I can do.”

The golf pro knows his limits and pushes them constantly. This further makes him aware of his breaking point, and that is certainly something he doesn’t want to explore. The next major championship is the Masters in the first week of April. So it’s very likely that Woods will take the field at Augusta.
