In the first match, the Irish pair of Liam Nolan and Mark Power showed remarkable teamwork by sinking birdies after birdies on the back nine. Their excellent performance led to a 4-3 win. The American team consisted of Austin Greaser and Dylan Menante.
This victory, as it turned out, was very important for the hosting team since it helped them maintain the overall lead. Mark Power shared their strategy, saying “We were both saying in our singles match yesterday, we were both coming off the back nine 2- and 3-down, and we said we were even after 10, and we said, look, let’s just get something going.”
He further added, “We both hit some great shots, both hit some great putts. We just really fed off the crowd, and we’re both dogged competitors, so once we got into it, we just loved it all.”
Nolan and Power’s remarkable performance included some amazing pars on the seventh and ninth holes. On the 11th hole which is a par three, an interesting incident occurred. Power hit an amazing shot which set up a great birdie for Nolan. After sinking this putt, they had a total of 4 consecutive birdies.

The all-Irish pair had an excellent occasion at the historical Old Course. Nolan explained the difference it makes to have your home crowd on the course cheering for you. He said: “When you have a home crowd out here with you and you’re hitting close wedge shots and you’re holing putts, you’ve got to get the whole place going because we still have the evening session to go, and you want a really strong wave of momentum going into that.”
The Walker Cup remains lively with Great Britain and Ireland holding a one-point lead and the Americans staging a comeback. The hosts now need 5 points from the 10 singles match-ups to reclaim the trophy.
